Spa Review: Heavenly Spa at The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort
At the beginning of this winter I managed to get away from Austria for a few days to a warmer spot on the map: Dubai.
Over the last two years I have been hopping my way around a variety of hotels in Dubai, and this time opted for the beach and the Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort.
The UAE provide beautiful climate at this time of the year, with moderate temperatures during the day which even allow for a swim in both sea and pools, and light breezes in the evenings that make dining in one of the hotel’s many outside restaurant areas very pleasant. (Best Pizza in town at Bussola!)
The heavenly spa at the Westin – located on the second floor – is maybe not the newest and greatest Spa in Dubai, however if you have followed my articles in the past, you will know, that
- my heart beats for smaller businesses
- I am not easily blended by flashy hardware, but always on the lookout for excellent service and quality.
My pre-arrival communication with hotel and spa alike was very pleasant, the entire conversation was prompt, friendly and welcoming, so I was very intrigued about my spa visit.
The heavenly signature massage
On arrival at the heavenly spa after a hectic work morning I was welcomed by warmhearted Deborah, the spa manager, who provided me with some information about my treatment, whilst I was sipping my delicious welcome drink and filling out my guest information sheet. The relaxing surroundings in the check-in area and the soft and friendly voices of the staff immediately tuned my mind into a more relaxed state.
A well trained spa attendant took me through to the small yet highly functional changing area, where I had time to enjoy the rather private sauna, steam room and jacuzzi prior to my treatment.
My highlight in the changing area: floor length mirrors on each locker door and super fluffy bathrobes!
Sheron, my therapist came to find me in the wet area when the time for my treatment had come.
She escorted me to one of the well equipped treatment rooms while asking me a few questions about my health, the treatment and general, and confirmed my treatment choice: the heavenly signature massage.
Doesn’t that sound just heavenly?
Before making myself comfortable on the bed, Sheron asked me to choose one of the provided stones representing “hope”, “gratitude” and “love”, which would be placed under my face cradle for me to see it during the treatment.
I picked the stone saying “love”, to which my massage was dedicated. What a lovely touch to add to a treatment!
The heavenly spa signature massage is a great Swedish massage without any useless knick-knack. After the application of warm compresses to the back which is a beautifully relaxing entree, the actual massage started me lying face down from the legs, and all body parts were treated equally well.
Physically rested and mentally uplifted
Although not taking any surprise turn, the massage was excellently executed and highly efficient at providing my desired outcome: calmness and mindfulness, or as the spa menu: “physically rested and mentally uplifted”.
My therapist was well trained and experienced and proved this natural ability of empathy during a treatment, that I find so important for a successful quality treatment.
Anyone can learn strokes and techniques, however to me the difference between an average and an excellent treatment lies in the provider’s intention, passion and pride. |
Further treatments other than a variety of fourteen different massages provided at the heavenly spa are
- body treatments such as scrub or nourishing body treatments,
- facials (with specific facials for men as well),
- hands & feet or finishing touches such as waxing.
By the way, you can also enjoy a massage beachside in the seafront cabana:
After a few beautiful finishing strokes, my therapist took her time to escort me to the small relaxation area, where refreshments awaited me: teas, fruits and nuts.
Gym and Fitness
On my way, I sneak peaked into the well equipped gym with a great view over the beach and sea.
For my personal workout I opted for the neighbouring gym at the Le Meridien, the sister hotel located next door. The Meridien gym is larger with more equipment, permanent staff on floor, and a big studio with a variety of group exercise classes. Hotel guests of both – Westin and Meridien – can choose in which of the two gyms they want to work out.
On my way out, I was said goodbye by lovely Deborah presenting me a bag full of goodies by Aromatherapy Associates, the well known skin care brand and pioneering business from Geraldine Howard, who had received the Leading Woman in Wellness award during this year’s Global Wellness Summit in New Mexico.
As I am writing this article, the terribly sad news reaches me that Geraldine has passed away beginning of January losing her battle with cancer.
Conclusion
The heavenly spa at The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi does not provide the newest, flashiest facilities. However the spa is well settled, the staff is exceptionally friendly, highly trained and skilled and hence offers great service quality.
And nothing beats good service!
I hope you find value and inspiration in my articles.
PS One more thing I have to share with you: Try the Westin’s Friday Brunch, the variety and quality is just amazing! But make sure to have a reservation, as it is highly popular.
